Nature Nurture Farmacy’s Enchanted Herbal Evening: A Celebration of Local Food and Community-Building
For the third year in a row, Nature Nurture Farmacy is bringing people together through locally-sourced food and the expertise of local chefs. The Enchanted Herbal Evening event will take place on August 10th at the City Farm Chehalis event venue in downtown Chehalis, Washington. Attendees will enjoy a farm-to-table meal made with fresh, seasonal produce from local growers, as well as live music, a flower crown making station, and other activities to promote community-building.
Supporting Local Healthcare on a Sliding Scale
Not only is the Enchanted Herbal Evening a fun and delicious event, it also supports Nature Nurture Farmacy’s mission to provide affordable alternative healthcare to those in the community with lower incomes. The Farmacy offers care, services, and access to alternative medicine, including naturopathic doctors, massage therapists, and an apothecary. They also prioritize the “Food is Medicine” project, recognizing the importance of healthy, locally-sourced food in promoting physical and mental wellbeing.
The proceeds from the Enchanted Herbal Evening go towards sustaining the Farmacy’s nonprofit and ensuring that their sliding scale model can continue to serve all members of the community. So, by enjoying a delicious meal and having fun at the event, attendees are also contributing to a worthy cause and investing in the health of their neighbors.
Local Food and Community-Building
One of the central values of Nature Nurture Farmacy is the belief that community is built through relationships with the people who grow our food. By partnering with local farms like Simpler Past Homestead and Minus Tide Shellfish, the Farmacy demonstrates the interconnectedness of local food systems and healthcare.
The “dream team” of chefs for the Enchanted Herbal Evening is headed by Shona Smith of Shona’s Food Company and assistant chef Michelle Peterson. Together with chefs Jack McHale of Minus Tide Shellfish and Derek and June Noble of A Simpler Past Homestead, they will create a menu of seasonal, fresh, and local food, featuring vegan, gluten-free, and vegetarian options.
Smith notes that physically having the ingredients on-hand inspires their creativity and enables them to elevate the quality and flavor of the dishes. This emphasis on fresh, local ingredients aligns with Nature Nurture Farmacy’s “Food is Medicine” project and helps to promote health not only through medical care, but through a holistic approach to wellbeing that incorporates food and community-building.
